I anticipated watching the Bastille Day parade in the morning
and convinced everyone to enjoy having a Sunday brunch and lounging around all morning. I carefully planned a lovely brunch—French
toast (served with peach compote made with the peaches Edwige gave me), omelets
made with truffle oil, skillet
fried potatoes, melon and strawberries,
salad with tomatoes (earlier in the morning we partook of croissants). Everything was wonderful except that we never found the
channel with the parade! We found
Fox News but not one French station!
We were surprised to see so many stores and restaurants open
on Bastille Day, which was on Sunday—a double whammy. They do cater to the tourists here. After the brunch, we left to see the
Chateau des Milandes, Josephine Baker’s chateau where she raised her 12 adopted
children who came from around the world.
We also watched a falconry bird show there. The whole visit was informative and fascinating. Then we left to visit Belves, another
one of the “most beautiful villages of France.” That evening we returned to have a typical French “light
supper” of cheese, charcuterie, bread, and tomate salad. Although everyone was tired, some of us
decided to climb the area behind the house to have a view of the fireworks from
Domme. They did not start until 11
PM, so the only left at that point were Lin, Barbara, and me. All in all, it was a lovely day.
